Col du Lautaret 2023

Even though I don’t get around like I used to, I am still seeing things that are startling to me. There is little or no snow here, compared to 40 years ago, the glaciers are retreating at an alarming rate. Ski areas throughout the Alpes region, are trying to reinvent themselves as a byproduct of climate change. In the Col du Lautaret series I was lucky enough to go over it during a snow storm and I thought of my youth and  “how much snow there was and how long winter was in Boston. It snowed in November and you wouldn’t see the ground until April, but those days are gone and I was thankful for the moment of being able to experience the extraordinary power of Mother Nature again and to see its graceful beauty and its remoteness.
